June 21 – July 16 Preaching Skills (MIN2A)
The proclamation of the Word is both an exciting and challenging part of the life of the church. This course will address all the areas of sermon preparation and delivery. It will cover the way in which we should view Scripture and how we can interpret passages for our context. Time will be allocated to practice our skills, particularly in delivery.

July 19 - August 13 Theology for Ministry (THE1)
Theology is simply the study of God. This often neglected part of the Christian life is vitally important as it determines much of the way in which we live out our Christianity. This course will look at the major doctrines (beliefs) of the Christian faith from an ecumenical perspective in a culturally sensitive way. It will also examine the worldviews prevailing throughout the world today and their influence on the church.

August 23 - September 17 Pastoral Caregiving (formerly Counselling) PAS
This course aims to provide students with a thorough understanding of the fundamentals of counselling in a Christian setting. It is meant for those who are finding themselves in situations where knowledge of the skills required for counselling would be beneficial. It is particularly aimed at those who will undertake this counselling in a local community or church setting.

September 20 - October 15 Christian Peacemaking (formerly Peacebuilding) THE2
In a world where many are talking about peace, this course will seek to help students to become peacemakers in the way in which we believe the gospel encourages us. This course will focus on identifying the anger and violence within ourselves before continuing to develop the tools we need to help develop the peace process within our interpersonal of group situations. We will look closely at a number of world renowned peace activists including Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi and Walter Wink.

October 18 - November 12 Ministry & Evangelism (MIN1)
This course seeks to empower congregations to become evangelical communities rather than just churches that do evangelism. This course will look at the aspects that make a healthy church and as such one which attracts people to it. It will also seek to help students develop a number of ways in which their local church can develop these aspects.

November 15 – 26 Women Empowered for Ministry (WEM1)
The Women Empowered for Ministry course is designed to challenge lay and ordained women in varied areas of ministry. Delegates are challenged at a personal level to rethink their gifts for ministry. Course faculty are expert lecturers in their fields covering aspects of leadership, counselling, prayer, evangelism, integrated and urban mission style work. Field trips and experiences in inner Sydney are a vital part of the course. The course is designed to maximise networking amongst women from different Pacific countries and provides a wide ranging overview of Christian ministry for women of all ages.

This to both keep the members informed of what is happening in the community and to draw outsiders into our various programs and services. Church Leadership in the 21st Century (CL)
July 10
This course seeks to both define and to upskill the leaders of the church for this new century. It focuses on what has become known as the missional leadership model. This course will look at generational theory and the post-modern paradigm as frameworks in which leadership will have to operate.

Old Testament Survey and the History of Israel (OTS)
August 28
This course charts the history of the people of Israel from Genesis to the end of the Old Testament. Using the historical timeline each of the biblical books is placed in its chronological sequence. The authorship, audience and main themes of each book are identified. A number of the other themes which run through the Old Testament are also examined (covenant, feasts, sacrifice).

New Testament Survey and the History of the Church (NTS)
September 11
Beginning with the Intertestamental Period, this course examines the New Testament and the development of the early church. It charts the life and teaching of Jesus from birth to ascension and seeks to identify some of the themes arising from this. The course goes on to map the life and teaching of Paul and his influence on the church.

Ministry Workshops
Workshops run from 9:00am to 3:30pm each day. Morning and Afternoon Tea and a light Lunch is provided. Accommodation is available at $30 per person shared.
October 5 -8 Mediation & Conflict Transformation for Ministry Agents
As more churches begin to share their facilities and communities with people from other ethnicities and faiths the potential for tension and conflict increases. This workshop will help to develop tools and strategies for dealing with these issues in a positive and transformational way. It will seek to start a process of skill development which will continue for the rest of the year.

2008 Brief Course Report from Pastor Roy Solomon Ifunasau
The courses that are offered by Alan Walker College are relevant to all religions and cultures in the Pacific nations.
To me as a Solomon Islander, these courses are beneficial to my cultural context. I know that I have benefited a lot after attending the 2005 Peacebuilding course and the 2007 Christian Counselling Course at the Alan Walker College.
I assure any interested person who wants to attend any of the courses at Alan Walker College that you will be a different person altogether, both spiritually and physically.
You will see new goals, visions and objectives in your ministry. I have really changed in many ways as a person. Even my way of doing ministry has changed.
Also, many lives homes and communities have been transformed, restored and healed just through the effects of my training at Alan Walker College.
